Is a city pass worth it in Rotterdam?
Rotterdam has one city card, and it works as a discount card: at least 25% off at more than 50 places, with unlimited public transport in the pricier version. Nothing is free with it. The other option is the Dutch Museumkaart, which opens four Rotterdam museums for free but skips Euromast, the zoo and the harbour tour.

What the cards actually cover
Rotterdam City Card (from €7.50 to €47.50) is a discount card, not a free-entry pass. It takes at least 25% off at more than 50 places, and in our data it applies to all nine attractions we track: Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, Euromast, Rotterdam Zoo, the Spido harbour tour, Kunsthal, the Maritime Museum, Wereldmuseum, Nederlands Fotomuseum and Miniworld. There are two versions: with unlimited RET public transport (1 day €17.50, 2 days €25, 3 days €32.50, 4 days €40, 5 days €47.50) or discounts only (1 day €7.50, 2 days €10, 3 days €12.50).
Museumkaart (€75 for adults aged 19 and over, valid for a year; the price on museum.nl, read on 16 October 2026) is free at the Kunsthal, the Maritime Museum, the Wereldmuseum and the Nederlands Fotomuseum. At the Depot you pay only the €2.50 Marisol surcharge until 29 March 2027. It is not valid at Miniworld.
Where the numbers land
- Discounts-only card: it pays back once your full-price tickets reach €30 on 1 day (€7.50 divided by 25%), €40 on 2 days and €50 on 3 days.
- Card with transport: €70, €100 and €130 of full-price tickets on 1, 2 and 3 days, before counting the transport tickets you would otherwise buy.
- Museums only: Kunsthal €20, Maritime Museum €17.50, Wereldmuseum €16 and Fotomuseum €17.50 add up to €71 at full price, less than the €75 Museumkaart. Add the Depot (€22.50 now) and the Museumkaart wins: €77.50 including the surcharge, against €93.50 in single tickets.
Prices that move
Euromast and Rotterdam Zoo price by date, so we use the “from” adult price each publishes (€13.50 and €27.50); real savings are usually a little higher. The Depot adds €2.50 to every ticket during the Marisol exhibition (9 October 2026 to 29 March 2027). Miniworld moves to ZUIDYARD in spring 2027.
How to decide
- Short trip, one or two paid sights: single tickets, or the discounts-only card if your full-price tickets reach €30 in a day.
- Several days on trams and metro, with Euromast, the zoo or the harbour tour: the City Card with public transport.
- Four or five art and history museums: the Museumkaart, then book the timed slots. Check your own list in the calculator.

Which should you buy?
Frequently asked questions about Rotterdam passes
Is the Rotterdam City Card worth it?
It depends on what you pay for at full price. The card takes at least 25% off, so the 1-day discounts-only version (€7.50) breaks even at €30 of tickets and the 1-day transport version (€17.50) at €70, before counting the RET tickets you would otherwise buy. The official site says it pays for itself after 2 to 3 attractions; run your own list through the calculator.
Does the Rotterdam City Card give free entry?
No. It is a discount card: at least 25% off at more than 50 museums, attractions, tours and restaurants. Nothing on our list is free with it. At the Kunsthal the discount applies only to the regular adult ticket price.
Does the Museumkaart work in Rotterdam?
Yes, at some places. It is free at the Kunsthal (a start time must still be booked), the Maritime Museum, the Wereldmuseum and the Nederlands Fotomuseum. At the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen you pay only the €2.50 Marisol surcharge until 29 March 2027. It is not valid at Miniworld, and Euromast, Rotterdam Zoo and Spido do not list it on their ticket pages.
Does the Rotterdam City Card include public transport?
Only the version with public transport: unlimited RET metro, tram and bus, including Hoek van Holland and Schiedam. It does not cover NS trains, water taxis or the Waterbus. Each day runs from the moment you activate the card until 4:00 AM the next morning.
Do I still need to book with the card?
Often yes. The Kunsthal and the Depot sell timed tickets, so book a slot first. You redeem the discount in the card's app: online in its webshop, or by showing the QR code at the ticket desk.
