Rotterdam City Card: is it worth it?
The Rotterdam City Card is a digital discount card: at least 25% off at more than 50 places, and in the pricier version unlimited RET metro, tram and bus. It never makes anything free, so it only pays back when your full-price tickets add up.

How does the Rotterdam City Card work?
- It is a card, not an all-you-can-visit pass. A limited number of entries are free and everything else is discounted — so spend the free entries on the most expensive sites.
- Public transport is included.
- It does not include priority entry.

Is the Rotterdam City Card worth it?
Choose the discounts-only version (from €7.50) when you will walk or cycle and spend €30 or more on tickets in a day. Choose the transport version (from €17.50) when you will also ride the tram and metro all day, or stay several days. Skip it for a single paid sight.
Where it wins
- At least 25% off at more than 50 museums, attractions, tours and restaurants
- Unlimited RET metro, tram and bus in the transport version, including Hoek van Holland and Schiedam
- Free P+R parking at Kralingse Zoom with the 1, 2 or 3-day transport card
- Digital card in an app: discounts online or by QR code at the ticket desk
Where it falls short
- Nothing on our list is free: you still pay 75% of every ticket
- Activation cannot be paused, undone or changed, and each day ends at 4:00 AM
- Not valid on NS trains, water taxis or the Waterbus
- At the Kunsthal the discount applies only to the regular adult ticket price
Best for: Visitors combining several paid sights, such as the Depot, Euromast and a harbour tour, over one to three days.
What you get
The card is sold in two versions. With public transport it costs €17.50 for one day and €47.50 for five, and covers unlimited RET metro, tram and bus. Without transport it costs €7.50 for one day and €12.50 for three. Both give at least 25% off at more than 50 participating places, redeemed in the card’s app.
The numbers
Because the card only discounts, the break-even is simple. The discounts-only card pays back when your full-price tickets reach €30 on one day, €40 on two and €50 on three. The transport card needs €70, €100 and €130 of tickets on one, two and three days, before counting the transport you would otherwise buy. For example, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen (€22.50), Euromast (from €13.50) and the Spido harbour tour (€18.75) come to €54.75 at full price: enough for the discounts-only card, not enough on its own for the transport card.
The catch
Activation is final, so open the app only when you start your first visit or ride. Also remember that the Museumkaart is free at several museums where the City Card would still charge 75%, so compare them in the calculator if you plan four or more museums.
